Put it in the drum instead of vinegar. Mold and coatings disappear, and the washing machine will smell wonderful!

Put This in Your Washing Machine Instead of Vinegar? What Actually Works for Mold, Odors, and Buildup
Vinegar and citric acid are often promoted online as simple ways to clean a washing machine. They are said to remove mineral buildup, eliminate unpleasant odors, and leave the machine smelling fresh without the strong smell associated with commercial cleaners.

But there is an important detail that many  cleaning hacks leave out: acidic cleaners are not automatically safe for every  washing machine.

Vinegar

Citric acid can dissolve mineral deposits such as limescale. However, that does not mean you should pour it into any washing machine. Bosch, for example, advises against using  vinegar and citric acid in its machines because acids can affect rubber components and contribute to deterioration over time.

Miele, on the other hand, specifies in instructions for some models that a particular citric-acid-based descaling product may be used according to the product and machine instructions.

The safest rule is simple: check your washing machine’s manual before putting citric acid, vinegar, bleach, or any other cleaning chemical inside the machine.

Why Does a Washing Machine Smell Bad?
A musty washing machine smell is not necessarily caused by limescale.

In many cases, the problem is caused by a combination of moisture and residue.

Common causes include:

Excess detergent
Fabric-softener residue
Dirt, body oils, and skin particles
Moisture trapped inside the rubber door gasket
Lint and hair
Frequent low-temperature washing
Buildup inside the detergent drawer
Water remaining in filters, hoses, or other areas
On front-loading washing machines, the rubber gasket around the door is one of the most common problem areas.

Moisture, hair, lint, and detergent residue can collect inside the folds of the gasket. If the area remains damp, it can contribute to musty odors and microbial growth.

Samsung recommends cleaning the door gasket regularly and allowing it to dry thoroughly.
